Aspect matters
South and south-east aspects at Falls Creek hold cold snow longest. North-facing slopes soften first in spring and are the first to lose cover during warm, high freezing-level events.

Prevailing north-westerlies strip the exposed high plains and deposit snow into lee gullies and treed east-facing pockets — typically the deepest turns after a frontal passage.
